i think that this has come up before, but at one
point someone suggested that top pros are only a
few stones' handicap away from perfect play.  i
think that komi might be the right way to think about
this at that level, as handicap stones aren't
fine-grained enough.

in any case, i think that the difference is probably
much larger than just one or two stones.  :)
