Hi ... I have a neighbor who wants to buy a new desktop computer. He now has a laptop but suddenly he can't get online with it. Comcast came today and checked out everything, finally concluding that it must be the computer (not the modem, the cables, etc.).
I have a Dell E510 (a year old) that I'm very happy with. Dell's E520 seems to be a direct update of mine and I believe it has everything he wants (big HDD, lots of RAM, built-in networking card, CD/DVD-RW, [duo-core processing -- I recommended that because it's what I have] and a 19" flat panel monitor). His previous computer (before the laptop) was a Gateway so he asked me to check them -- and it seems Gateway has essentially the same machine (DX 430) as the Dell E520 -- but for $699 instead of $819. I wonder if you'd offer opinions on which of the two computers you think is best -- OR -- if neither, maybe what you WOULD recommend in about that same price range (including the flat-panel monitor). Please don't waste your energy recommending a Mac because it's just not going to happen. He has PC software; he's an older man who barely knows how to download his bank statements. So the thought of going to a whole new system is too much for him. Thanks in advance for your always wonderful advice, Gail Miller ************************************************************************ * ==> QUICK LIST-COMMAND REFERENCE - Put the following commands in <== * ==> the body of an email & send 'em to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <== * Join the list: SUBSCRIBE COMPUTERGUYS-L Your Name * Too much mail?
