I dunno the answer; I've used several desktop search apps and never had much trouble. The last I used was the freeware X1 (http://www.x1.com/); I never heard they had an X3 version (or a 13th version for that matter!).
But I just gotta ask: What is it you do that you need to do these searches so much? I think I might do a search like this once a year, which is why I'm dragging my feet reinstalling a desktop searcher right now. I mean, it's not like you can't do the search in Windows.
If necessary, I will uninstall WP and reinstall from version 5 to the latest version in hopes of getting somehow the search facility back, but this is likely to take two days or more of my time.
