On rising needs to support MS OSs (or any other OS for that matter)
The makers of Hot Dogs and Hot Dog Buns probably understand computer industry
business models as well as anyone else. Generally, hot dog makers put 8 hot
dogs in each package, meanwhile Hot Dog Bun makers tend to put 10 buns in each
package. So in order to get exactly what you need, the consumer is constantly
having to buy more of one or the other...never having enough of either bun or
dog. Likewise, software companies always produce applications/OSs requiring
more RAM or computer capacity to run, while likewise hardware companies attempt
to overshoot new software to make previous applications seem obsolete. And in
the meantime, each company can report to stockholders that the potential for
growth continues.
Just like the rest of the economy, the computer industry is driven by the
prospect of new purchases (for replacement, new entrants into the market, or
just sheer techno-lust).
