version. Vista is the name of a particular version of Windows, and

that it's not going to be used for a different version is of no
significance

All PC users that I know and speak with refer to Vista as Vista.
They never preface Vista with the word Windows. It is always simply
Vista. They will say Windows XP, they will say Windows 98, they will
say Windows 2000, but it is always simply Vista, almost as if Vista
was some grand departure from Windows, a concept that may have
resulted somewhat in how MS promoted Vista in the first place. Of
course, MS officially refers to Vista as Windows Vista, but for
whatever the reason, the plain term of Vista has apparently stuck with
both the computer using public as well as with sales persons on the
retail floor.
