I have the sprint version of the eris and I find it extremely usable and
well made. Everything I've wanted to do I've been able to, the soft
keyboard is good, but not quite iphone good. The apps are plentiful, I
don't find myself missing anything in that department.

The droid I have zero experience with, I know it does not have a nice 'skin'
over it like many HTC and Samsung android phones, but the core OS is the
same as the other android phones so I imagine very usable and versatile.
There are about four million reviews of the hardware on the droid, find a
couple you trust (they are like movie reviewers) and read up.
