I'm not buying one because they're expensive. It would be nice to be
able to afford every piece of cute hardware that comes along, but
that's just not the real world.
The questions I'm most interested in are: 1) how many people are
going to buy an iPad INSTEAD of a laptop; and 2) how long before
having an iPad is pretty much expected of you, if you're middle class
in the business and professional world--for important functions, or
just for street cred. (In some quarters, you're considered to be
some kind of hermit or luddite if you don't have an iPhone--or other
genius-level smart phone--and/or a Blackberry.)
Plus, I'm still waiting for a small, portable word processor with
Apple-type fit and finish. I probably couldn't afford it either
right now, but I'd try a lot harder to find the money.
