Yup. I hate CVS, but I chose it because at the time the only options were CVS
and SVN and when it comes to release management, CVS is far better (even
though it sucks at most other things compared to SVN). Given it's a relatively
small project with minimal commiters, I optimized for ease of release 
management.

git is far better in every sense, and I look forward to moving all my projects
to it.
