No, I think it was the remote. I was in a hurry, or I would have debugged it.
I didn't see an OOPS. It's possible I could have ssh'd in and rmmod'd the usb
modules and readded them, but I just rebooted when I noticed that no USB
devices (keyboard, mouse) were working but everything else (my skype
connection, for example) continued to work.
