It looks like connmand has crashed.
After some further investigation connmand crashes a few seconds after
enabling tethering:
root@beaglebone:~# connmand -n -d > connmand_failed_tethering.log 2>&1

I guess someone else already pointed out that 0.79 is pretty old. We
fixed a lot of bugs since then. You should really update ConnMan.
