Okay I tinkered, much nicer kernel build, same output attached, better information. This is the last posting of such attachments unless more asked for, these are appropriate for the issue. All devices registered, including /dev/dsp. Artsd not happy yet. Chromium happy & w/sound. DMA mode now working on HDD. Acpi, apic, apm. Odd Realtek 8139too did not want to be a module anymore, Builtin. Kernel is "too big to fit on a floppy" <- I was thinking maybe the size also may have had something to do with it, my previous working builds were all "small enough to fit on floppy", so this is not the problem either. Now it is either the processor architecture or something obscure that is to blame for the kernel(s) not booting "out of the box".
