I know what he meant. But he should have said "Their products seem like betas
to me." Not that they charge for betas.

Actually I get them because I had a product that ran under Windows that they
broke once and their testers complaigned loudly to them.
And as far as buying the betas. In those cases you get CDs and it's more meant
for people like VARs who want to play around with it before they have to be
selling it.
At any rate I think he would have served the community better by not just
bashing them!
