I have three main recipe folders. All three are backed up on a flash drive and also on the external hard drive. First folder is "cookbook", where I keep all recipes that are written in Russian. The subfolders are appetizers, cakes, candy, cookies and brownies, meat, mushrooms, pasta, seafood, and vegetables. Second folder is "recipe book". It has recipes written in English, which are not desserts. The subfolders are meat, mushrooms, other (recipes that don't fit into any other subfolder), pasta, seafood and vegetables. And the third folder is "recipes", where I file all chocolate desserts. The subfolders are brownies, cakes, candy, cookies, cupcakes and individual cakes, desserts, and pies. (Desserts are recipes that won't fit into other subfolders).

I have a file under my documents called recipes. I have folders in that file for appetizers, breads, brownies, cakes, candy, casseroles, cookies, eggs, frostings, gravy, ham, miscellaneous, muffins, pasta dishes, pies and pie crusts, pork, salads and dressings, seafood, soups, vegetables, and I forgot beef. Oh, and crockpot. Everything gets filed accordingly. Then, when I want a recipe, I look in the appropriate folder. Don't know how many I have, but, I've vowed to make at least one new one each week. If it's not a keeper, it gets deleted. It would probably be a good idea to copy them onto a Hope this helps.
