>From my experience Yo-yoing comes from doing the "I can't eat this again till I make my weight goal" thought process. Dieting is an artificial state of affairs that forces the person doing the dieting to assume many of the facets of addiction, so I don't do it -- Instead I decided to change my diet, setting new parameters that I will keep for the rest of my life. For instance, to go back to the earlier title of this thread, I've cut out French fries when eating out almost all of the time -- the only time I wind up eating them is when I forget to substitute something else like a salad. I love them, but I also know they're not healthy for me, as I have hereditary hypertriglycedemia, so getting my triglycerides under control is extremely tough. (At my last check-up I was only 16 over the range, which prior doctors would have said I'd never reach, as they would have been happy with 150 over the target with my blood chemistry)
