Subject: Re: [COUPERS] retreads

Also I know some retract drivers that will not use them. The reason they say, is because the side wall is thicker on the retread. Has been known to get stuck after being retracted.  ?????

Correct!  On some model airplanes the wheels fit in very tightly.  If the tire is oversized a bit (as some retreads are) they will not tuck into the well properly and damage to doors and/or mechanisms may occur.  For the $50.00 or so I'm saving on retreads, I wouldn't want to risk a $2000.00 door, or worse yet, the gear mechanism, in which case the airplane is immediately bought by the insurance company.  This find is a Godsend to the Coupers using the old nose gear.  I'd so with them n a second. Can't be any worse than Firestones on a Ford Explorer!
