First, if you go a hundred miles or so north, I believe you can cross at about 1000 ft. lower altitude.  Secondly, I suspect the Alon will make it OK if there isn't a road below you.  I assume that while Hi time, it's running good.  I will say that there's nothing wrong with flying over a road, but if it's gonna cost you hundreds of miles to stay over one, I'd take the route less traveled.

I'm a low-time pilot in a high time Alon, contemplating a trip from the San
Francisco Bay Area to Sun Valley Idaho, in the summer. Anyone with advice
about routing?
Is simply following I-80 the most practical way, rather than cutting across
vast areas of desert with nothing in sight, including roads? How about
crossing the Sierra in the summer? I hope this isn't too rudimentary for the
list.
