I don't know much about a King KX170B, but the important thing to look for
in those old avionics is whether it is 360 channels (50 khz channel
spacing)
or 720 channels (25 khz channel spacing). I couldn't tell from the
picture
if the KX170B has a switch for 25 khz channel spacing. If it is only 360
channels, you can get a good used Narco Mark 12 with the VOR indicator for
less than $150. The problem is that you may find an airport where you
can't
communicate due to having an odd frequency that you can't dial into with a
360 channel radio. For some people this is acceptable, but if you do a
lot
of cross country travel, this can be a big problem. Then again, limited
communication is better than none.

Forrest,

Here's a bitmap image of the King KX170B. (Just click on the attachment)
I found it on ebay
 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=579879719 )
if you're interested. The current bid is $600 and the reserve has been
met.
