When I stripped my coupe for painting, I just used hardwear store
paint remover. It's a dirty job. I would paint it on, let it sit, then
scrape it with a wooden paint stir stick. This didn't scratch the
aluminum. Then scrub it with a nylon pot scrubber. When all the paint
was off I washed it down with laquer thinner several times. Then I
scrubbed it with a Scotch Brite pad.You also have to carefully pick all
the old paint from around the rivets and cracks. If you have fabrick
covered wings, DON'T use paint remover on them. Once you've spent many
hours scrubbing until you feel everything is spotlessly clean, use some
aluminum etch wash. A good paint shop could tell you what to use. I then
used a two part epoxy primer. For paint I used Centari acrylic enamel
with a hardner. Because mine is camoflage, I didn't want it too shiny,
so I added 50% flattener to the paint. It's still quite shiny, but not
too much. I used about 15 rolls of masking tape. Make sure you use good
quality automotive tape or you'll regret it. If you do one colour with
maybe some trim, it's not too bad a job, but mine had at least six and
it was a lot of masking and planning. Be very careful to mask the
windows off very well. Any remover on the windows and their done for.
Overall, it's quite a bit of work, but it gives you a chance to have a
good look at the plane and make it look a lot better. Don't be afraid to
get some helpful advice from someone who's done this sort of thing
before. I just did mine and learned as I went along. I used about 3
gallons of paint on the main colours and a quart or so on the smaller
bits. If you want any lettering or graphics, talk to one of the many
sign shops around, and they can give you're finish a very professional
look. Check the price of paint, it might supprise,or scare you. Well, I
