----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- Evelyn and I sure enjoyed meeting so many fine people, especially my "email comrades," at the EOC Nationals in Terrell. Y'all missed a wonderful touring opportunity on Saturday afternoon, the weather was smooth and clear and the flying was ...... well, you know. Our flight home to Houston had a surprising "high" point: we landed in Waco for fuel and to get a map, so I could show Ev where I'd gone to Jr. High and High School and so on. While I was making the desired pit-stop, she struck up a conversation with this "bum-looking" guy lying on the couch in the lounge. He offered to take us around, if we didn't mind riding in a beat-up pick up. He'd just paid $800 for it and just got the AC working two days before. He and his girlfriend do scrounging and scavenging and sell stuff at flea markets. Actually make quite a great living. We got to take pictures where I'd lived in 1960-1965 (the little duplex is still standing, great memories) and of my high school. We went to a quick dinner after helping load up at the flea market. Then back to the airport to depart. But first we had to "tour" the AeroCommander that he pilots for a local associ- ation. That kind of lent some credibility to his stories of flying for Eastern, flying for a local college ...... and the stories about his 3rd retirement, and the (literally) millions of dollars he's made in real estate, import-export, etc. Funny about how Mom and Dad used to say that you can't tell a book by it's cover! Anyway, we had a splendid time with our new-found friends in Waco. (He'd owned a Coupe in the past.) I guess Coupers are just kind of like that ..... you know, regular people with a passion for living and flying. Mark and Melissa and all the volunteers and EOC helpers -- THANKS for making our weekend a WONDERFUL time! Mark and John -- your seminars were really special. See you folks next year!
