Let's just say that I know this other pilot, see, who has no medical problems, but isn't taking any chances. He actually heard an AME invited to an EAA meeting state that: "an AME incurs no risk by grounding a pilot and considerable risk in taking any initiative at all in an effort to keep the pilot flying". So, this pilot I know, whose personal physician was a Navy flight surgeon once upon a time, takes the position that there is no risk in keeping all medical anomalies to himself and checking off the form as being fit as a fiddle, while confiding all physical maladies to his personal physician. He sees his doctor for physicals annually and the doctor knows he is a private pilot. This other pilot I know is therefore able to have the kind of relationship with his doctor that we should all be able to safely have with the AMEs (but can't due to the adversarial role they're charged with). It's a shame it has to be like that. For this other pilot I know, of course, certainly not for me. I abide strictly by the law. I just happen to be very healthy.
