Higher altitudes are the norm out here in California because of the Sierras. Maynard lives and flies out of Truckee Airport that gives some people nosebleeds while on the ground. I take off at 3000' in Apple valley and generally go 8500' + to go anywhere. Also the C90/or O-200 conversions are popular in CA and AZ because of the altitude and heat.
