Not to dispute your good time, Larry.
But what you probably had was upslope wind to lift you. Same effect as
a thermal, but caused by wind going up a slope. Evidence for my claim is
the mountains running north. Wind tends to go east/west out here. So the
wind blew up hill and took you with it.
Please remember the "down side." That is where the wind comes down
the other side. It can get quite rough, and take more power to climb
through
than your plane has = can ruin your day. Knowledge of how wind impacts
mountain ridges is one of the hallmarks of mountain flying.
