To all;

Having read most of the email concerning the recent gounding of all VFR
flight, I have come to
the conclusion that it is justified up to this point and probably
justified
for some time in the future.

Some ask why VFR flight is still permitted in Alaska. I think it is clear
that terrorist attacks are considerably less likely in a remote area like
Alaska and the economy of Alaska and the well-being of its citizens are
dependent to a great degree on VFR flight for both food and medical
attention. It would constitute a public hazard to do otherwise.

In contrast to Alaska the lower 48 present different problems and require
a
different solution. The entire US economy and well-being of its citizens
is
dependent, to a large degree, on the functioning of a live and well
airline
industry. On the other hand it is not so dependent on the vast majority of
GA VFR flights that are for the most part discretionary.

An approach to showing American solidarity and commitment to a common
cause
at the expense of a few was shown by all major professional sports
associations. It would have been appropriate for the GA community to
follow
their lead and vote to ground themselves voluntarily for the good of the
country; a gesture that would have won us public approval and admiration.
Not only would such a gesture be of great help to us, it would have been
the
right thing to do.

It has been noted that there is a bail-out being prepared for the airline
industry. It is clear to me that this is an attempt to support a vital US
interest and is appropriate. It is also appropriate to bail out the GA
community as well. It is being hit just as hard, if not harder, by the
current national security sanctions on VFR flight.

I am aware that the opinions expressed here will not be read with
enthusiasm
by many of those who subscribe to this list. However, I felt it necessary
to
voice my opinion in the hopes that few would respond positively, a few
might
change their mind and a few might merely reconsider their point of view.

Sincerely,
Joe Hinig
