Then let's be really "safe" and keep everything on the ground till the posse rounds up all the bad guy's. I guess if the gov. can afford billions to help the scheduled airlines, it should be able to afford millions to keep the General Aviation operators solvent now too, right? There are lots of bad guy's out there, and there are going to be more. The pathetic security system of the scheduled airlines are the problem. Not general aviation. Look at what happened on 11 Sep. 4 flights were able to be overtaken on a schedule decided by the terrorists. That's not good security by any standard, even if we assume that they prevented a handful of others at the same time, which isn't proven yet. Unfortunately, six thousand plus people do not!!! Consider that when you complain about your own personal circumstances!!! Second, I too was appalled and disappointed about being grounded. I even suggested here to write your congressman and complain -- and I did just that. I WAS WRONG!!!! No one on this list wants to be grounded - thats a given. We all appreciate our freedom to come and go as we please in the air. But ask anyone who has lost their medical, it's not a right! We grudingly accept that a pilot should not fly when they may be a danger to themselves or others. Guess what, we are all a danger to ourselves and others, at this point in time!!! It's like asking to be able to go Sunday driving through a battlefield. Or in the case of business, like just having to get a pizza delivered thru a hurricane, because the company has to get it there in thirty minutes or less. Both examples are absurd, yes. But very appropriate. There is no reason, not one, that warrants anyone in the air jeapordizing the efforts to capture and contain these terrosists. Anyone who thinks differently should explain to the families of victims, why it is more important that they fly than to catch these bastards. As a member of the Law Enforcement community (who has seen all sorts of slams posted here against us), I became aware of some intelligence information that is supposed to go public today, In fact it has. We are looking for two hundred KNOWN associates of the hijackers. Of these, take special note -- 33 ARE pilots, 4 are student pilots and several are aviation mechanics. And there is substantial evidence that this was not the only planned attacks! Think about this -- Is YOUR "right" to fly more important than allowing these SOB's to VFR their ass right out of here?? Now I hope the majority here can agree that we need to locate and take eliminate these threats before resuming VFR flight. We've got the borders tightened up and even water ports are under surveillance, we NEED to close the air escape route. And, ATC does not need to deal with hundreds of potential targets in the air. Remember, if allowed to escape, they may be the the next wave of attack -- and the next waves will increase in intensity. When the Mall of America is destroyed, DisneyLand poisoned, and truck bombs a weekly occurrence, we may look back at this time as "the good old days." The ONLY way to prevent that is locate and destroy the threat and at this time it means Containment. They will be much easier to find now then a year from now. We are NOT grounded to keep a small plane from crashing into any site, we are grounded to locate murder accomplices! Think of this as a roadblock around a crime scene - inconvenient, yes, but necessary! I predict that when these accomplices are located -- we will be back in the air. Paranoia has set into the mindset of pilots. This comes from lack of information. We all wish the Government wouold tell us what it's doing and why. I think this administration learned it's lesson with disclosing intelligence to the media or public at large. We're not going to see the news cameras waiting on the beaches as our Special Forces lands on the beach again. This only jeapordizes our armed forces in carrying out their mission. Our intelligence community has been SEVERLY curtailed in the last eight years. Then we scream, "where were they?" Congress did not want them dealing in dirty work -- like paying for information from "known criminals."" Just where the hell do you think Criminal intelligence comes from -- church socials??? In the last Administration, KNOWN and CONVICTED Peurto Rican terrorists were released (to buy latino votes for Hillary, hmmm?), We lip serviced taking action against terrorists - yet refused to allow the victim families from the first World Trade Center bombing to sue Osama Bin-Laden. Yes that's right, Janet Reno would not allow these families to sue for wrongful death -- As ALLOWED by law. I'm hopeful that this short sighted thinking will change. We are not seeing the press releases about what's happening, because we do not have the RIGHT to know. Would ANY, and I mean ANY intelligent person among us believe that we should have been told of the Doolittle Raid before the fact??? Anyways... I'm rambling. Point is - Don't blame the FAA, Don't blame the DOT, Don't blame the airlines! We are grounded as a matter of NATIONAL SECURITY!! that's yours, mine and ours!! Support your country -- support the rescue efforts -- support the victims -- and support general aviation!!
