I agree Vishni. The security proposals for planes under 12,500 lbs are
very serious. As are the costs being proposed for flight students and
bi-annual "licensing". And are among those "other issues" I referred too.
Hoping they would not get pushed aside because of the security personnel
concerns.

By the way, my memory may have gotten a bit tossed. I stated the Herb Kohl
introduced section 1062 if the Aviation Security bill when in fact it was
the "under 12,500 lbs" proposal that was his. Sorry for the error.

Congressman

This is terrible and so are the TFR's but neither is as bad as the
proposal to force the FAA to develop a security program for light
airplanes. This awful thing could become reality but most folks seem
focused on the more immediate issue of the TFR's. If this security
program was to come about then I see that this could make it very
difficult for the small airports and airfields can continue to operate.
Many of these are barely open in the first place and with security
requirements which will doubtlessly cost money they will have to close.
Imagine if you had to call out someone, perhaps a local sheriff's deputy,
to check your plane before departure from a small field which couldn't
possibly have a full-time person on-site. They won't do that for free,
they'd know nothing about aviation, and besides, why should you have to be
checked before you do something personal in our free country? This
proposal could be written into the final bill so we had better make a lot
of noise and see that it doesn't! Vishni
