Since the subject of insurance came up I'll relate my latest
     experiences...

Got insurance on my Coupe last Spring for $650 Aircraft-Marine and
that was for me as a student pilot. I let my insurance lap this
Spring since I was still working on the restoration. Gave a call
back
to the same insurance agent and he said that the price is now
$900!!!!
And this with me as a private pilot with over 100 hours. Nothing
else on the policy changed by much (I upped the value of my aircraft
a
little.) I was amazed and asked him why the change. He said that
insurance agencies frown on letting a policy lapse and charge more.
My gut feeling is that he's gouging me because he is independent and
if I call other insurance companies (besides the big ones) they see
that I have already gotten a quote from him and won't give me a
quote.
      Arrrggghh. Can you say COLLUSION???

Anyway, would be interested in all your thoughts as to why my policy
would go up about 40% in a year.

Oh, flew about 700 miles this weekend to Idaho and S. Oregon (and
back
up over Crater Lake, very pretty.) Who says the Coupe ain't a XC
     bird!
