Good morning Folks;

After reading about your expense on motor rebuilts,
I would like to say that I know that all people are
not mechanical inclined, but if you can learn to fly,
then you have some ability to do mechanics. The
engine overhaul is fun and very good way to get in and
learn on a very simple engine. You can find a A&P
that can supervise and sign off. He will not have to
be there in the disassembly of the engine. You can
buy the overhaul manual and spare parts catalog for
$15, after all is apart send the cylinders and case to
a good shop for overhaul and tags, you can go standard
by chrome, are boring to .015. Send gears, cam, and
crank for inspection, grinding, if needed, and tags.
All of this will be a education process and it can
save you money and you will have a better enlightment
of your small airplane, plus a enjoyable experience.
After all parts a back get with the A&P and put the
engine together, this can take about 4 to 5 hours and
you have a overhauled engine, most A&Ps like to work
with people that are interested in learning. You can
probably save 33 percent or more on your overhaul.
