Hi list,

In answer to the outdated chart question, I believe that the regulations
require the pilot in command to "familiarize himself with every aspect of
his flight" before he/she takes off. I believe that on the front of the
sectional is a statement about when it becomes outdated. So, from the
FAA's point of view, you are using outdated materials to "familiarize
yourself with your flight."

The FAA has bigger fish to fry.

I work in the building next to the Fresno FISDO. I am an A & P school
instructor, a Designated Mechanic's Examiner and an IA, as well as an
Ercoupe owner. I am in the FAA office almost daily, and personally know
almost every inspector in the office on the maintenance side. They are
all honest, hard-working gentlemen, many of whom are aircraft owners and
pilots. Many of them have had fathers who were key influential figures in
the early days of aviation in this local area. What I'm saying is that
they are not just out to "bug us" or "bust us". For the most part they
are working on bigger projects that affect the aviation community as a
whole. From time to time however they are tasked with going out to the
"small airports" in their region- the resting places of our Ercoupes.
After driving for about 4 hours to get there, they are GOING TO find
something. DONT GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO FIND!

They are trying to find student pilots giving people rides, or ratty
airplanes that shouldn't be in the air in the first place, or ADs out of
compliance, people flying without medicals, etc, etc, etc.

The FAA inspectors here in the Fresno area are informative and helpful.
They love flying just as much as we do.
