When you taxi your airplane into position for takeoff, you have already
cheked EVERYTHING except the static prop RPM. When you push that throttle
home, if you are not turning the proper RPM, you can, and will reach your
60-mph rotating speed, but will it climb out? I have had people run down
the runway with their carb heat on! That Tach will tell you immediately
if
something is wrong, even if you forgot to fill it with oil, or it is
starving for fuel. When you move up to a bigger airplane, the Tach AND
the
Manifold pressure become your primary instruments during takeoff.
