Glen, Generators do not produce any current when your RPMs are under 1200.  I assume you were "driving it around" at 1000 RPM or less.  This will discharge your battery.  If your battery is discharging at higher RPMs also, such as when in flight, you have a couple of questions to ask yourself.  1. What is the rated output of your generator?  2. What is the total amp draw of your electrical equipment?  If your rated generator output is greater than your total amp draw you either have a generator that needs rebuilding or possibly a voltage regulator problem.  If your rated generator output is less than your total amp draw, you should convert to a higher output generator or to an alternator system.  Coupe generators are either 14 amp, 20 amp or 35 amp, and the alternator STC calls for an 80 amp alternator.  Good luck.
