Syd, I couldn't agree more. When the ad can out I had (5) Ercoupes for
the flight
team. ( 2) Alons and (3) 415 CD. All had metal wings We did the AD.
They were
all fine. The Alons had had the zinc green stuff on the caps from the
factory. We
took the wings off to do the older 415 and looked real good, drilled the
holes.
They were real shiny inside like new, alittle real light corrosion on the
bottm
caps but no big deal. One plane I sold and the wings had some hail damage
so the
new owner was going to recover them with cloth. When he had the metal
skin off he
found the spar caps were real bad. We then took some the metal skin on
the other
ones off and they were ALL bad. One plane the caps looked real good after
we took
skin off and I didn't think they needed to be replace, but the man who
bought it
wanted to play it safe and put on new caps. When he took the old caps off
the spar
than you could see they were ROTTEN from the inside. I think if your coupe
had the
metal wings put on in the late 50's or 60's there ALL bad. I know it
tought but
start saving your money and put new spars in your planes as soon as you
CAN!!!
