To the group in general:
I really get a kick out of all the discussion on the auto fuel issue.
>From a saftey aspect I think you are all taking a big risk every time you
fill up with fuel from your local gas station. Why? Just reading all the
supposed precautions you are taking is enough to make me nervous.Everyone
who is testing their fuel seems to have a different method. Can you be
certain that your method is correct? Some of you think the water level in
your test sample should rise with the presence of alcohol and some say the
water level should be less! Some of you are relying on the word the person
at
the local station that Texaco or some other retailer never sells fuel with
alcohol. What about when they run short and fill their tanks with an off
brand to get them by until the regular shipment arrives? Don't kid
yourself,it happens.
Those plastic tanks you are taking back and forth to the airport. Are
you
sure they are clean, with no condensation? Has anyone used that tank for
filling the lawnmower, moped, boat, chainsaw, etc?
I'm not saying that the the 100LL or MOgas you buy at the airport is
always perfect, but, IMHO, it sure is a safer bet than than the
alternative.Yes, it's more expensive, I figure that in as part of my
insurance premium.
Aside from saftey, think about the airport that you fly out of.The fuel
you buy there is helping to keep them in business. Every time a couper or
anyone else brings fuel to their plane from off the airport they are
taking
a little income away from the FBO or airport. It all adds up. If we want
to
fly, we need to support the airports that make it all possible!
I know I've stepped on a lot of toes here, but this group goes on and on
about flying safely. Unfortunately safety is not always cheap.
