We have a "Mooney" M-10, with lots of up travel.  It's a 
conventional tail.  I still can't get the nose up much until 
the thing is going down the runway at a pretty good speed.

The problem might be that the main wheels are too far aft of the 
CG to let me bring the nose up with a little power and full up
elevator.  I used to taxi with the wheel all the way back like
in the Cessnas, because this would raise the nose in the Cessna
for more ground clearance, but it doesn't do anything in the 
Mooney, so I just leave the wheel forward.
