Dave, Maybe the mechanic had a ride in a tired coupe.... In my experience, I find the coupe performs just about like a C-152. I fly out of Blacksburg, Va. 2100ft ASL, and climb right at 500 ft/min.with Dad and myself on board. Dad weighs about 165 and I weigh about 190, and with full fuel, we are right at gross --1400 lbs. We are flying behing a C-85 with 1025 hours since new ( March 21, 1946.) It has been top overhauled, in 1984.
I think it is one great airplane. It won't do spins, and you can't slip it - cause you can't do un-cooridinated manuvers. But it will fly in weather one shouldn't be flying in....in any other airplane. I would suggest finding a coupe to try --- with an Ercoupe experienced owner/instructor, and compare with other airplanes in your price range.....Then make your decision...not by my comments; or anyone else's, who is really not familiar with this piece of history. It is a unique airplane. Fly Safe - Have Fun Harry Francis N93530 Blacksburg, VA
