In the year that I have been associated with
this forum I have heard many reasons cited as a possible cause for nose wheel
shimmy. All have been interesting and worth checking. However I ran
across something in service bulletin No. 61 that has to my knowledge not yet
been mentioned. Maybe something new to look at.
In paragraph 2.a it discusses the pins that
attach the outer cylinder bearing and it's lower bushing and the outer
cylinder and its attaching collar. It states that these pins have a
tendency to become worn and elongated by the loads imposed on them thereby
making the strut loose, contributing to Shimmy and additional wear. Looks
like a lot of work to check these, however if everything else has been
checked, what's left?
