Those of you who have been on the list for a while may remember that
I sent you a copy of a letter that I sent to Tom Poberezny about the
excessive amount of cigarette smoking and trash on the flight line,
often between and under airplanes at the EAA convention last summer,
offering some suggestions to remedy the problem. I suggested to you
people to write similar letters. I also sent copies of my letter to all
of the EAA chapters that I could get postal addresses for, (about 550
chapters) and asked them also to write similar letters.
I think I have ruffled a few feathers at EAA headquarters! Bob
Mackey, EAA vice president for chapter affairs called a few weeks ago
and said he and his assistant were coming to our next chapter meeting
(which is this afternoon) and would be making an announcement that would
please all of us. He would not tell me yet what the announcement was,
but did say my letter and many similar letters had been discussed at the
Board meetings, and that Tom said "The biggest mistake I have made in my
life is to propose allowing anybody and everybody access to the
flightline at the convention."
I'll send you another message telling you what Bob's announcement
is.
