JR - there are lots of folks on this list who know far more about the
history of the coupe and the variants of the different models than I do.
We have a D, which has a 1400# gross weight. I would recommend either a D
or E Ercoupe, since you have about 150 pounds more gross, almost all of
which is useful load, compared to a C or CD.
As to rudder pedals, the lack of them is no big deal. It took me about 5
hours to quit pushing on the floor during climb out. I routinely fly
conventional 3 control airplanes, our coupe, gliders, and helicopters.
Going back and forth causes no problems.
You might want to consider a plane that is in need of an immediate annual.
That's how we bought ours - instead of doing a pre-buy, we did an annual,
and found out what we were buying before it would have been too late to
prevent a big mistake. Ours is in good condition, but getting an annual
done increases your comfort level with any new plane. Just factor the
cost of the annual into your price negotiations with the seller. Then,
don't agree to actually buy until the annual is done, and you know what
you're getting. You might spend a few hundred dollars and not buy the
plane, but that's certainly better than getting a dog.
By doing an annual, you'll also get an idea of what work will be needed in
the next year or two, so you can plan expenditures. Sometimes an airplane
can pass annual in a given year, but the next year will be expensive. If
you buy one in annual, you forego the opportunity to talk to the IA who
did the annual, and discover what might be marginal now, and need fixed
next year.
Good luck finding a nice plane.

Please bear with me.
What is difference between Ercoupes
such as 415C , D , Forney F-1 , etc.
Which is desireable from a practical standpoint ?
Any reason to opt one over the other ?
I'm a low time 152 pilot that wants something
thats " fun " to fly. Do you know what I mean ???
I always loved ercoupes when I would see them around.
I must admit though that I kind of like rudder pedals.
Any opinions out there ? ( or ercoupes for sale ? )
I'm looking for something low time smoh with at least
functional radios and maybe a cheap gps.
I've seen several interesting for sale , but I have not
decided which way to go quite yet.
I do not desire a craft which requires ad compliance
or an immediate annual .
Any suggestions , opinions , comments , etc ,
are welcome , ( I think ....)
