The reason that there has to be a stainless skin is that that area is
actually
part of the firewall and the FAA says that all firewalls have to be SS, I
personally think that they screwed up when the coupe was certified with
the
Continental engine and that the 415-D was only a way to correct an old
mistake! Yes you have to put the SS on top and it has to go all the way
back.
If I am not mistaken I think that you can rivet it over the existing skin.
If
I were you I would forget the whole thing. The only benefit is that you
have
an increased gross weight...on paper that is approved. And we all know
that
Coupers would never fly their coupes over gross..Ha..Ha, so what is to be
gained???
