Brian,
FWIW it appears that the Forney and Alon had the gascolator mounted on the
firewall based on Service Bulletin A-19 (M10-1)  There is a picture on
page
6 of 8 of this SB showing the mounting of the gascolator.    Also Alon
Service Bulletin No. 12 shows the gascolator mounted on the firewall.  You
may be able to use this to get a 337 on your airplane.
Since I do not have an Alon I cannot confirm this, perhaps someone else
could.

My IA says the it must be moved to the Carb position. Does anyone out

the plane passed annual last year with this mod without problem ( by the

I would like to know as it is pretty simple to check the fuel up there on
