Brian, FWIW it appears that the Forney and Alon had the gascolator mounted on the firewall based on Service Bulletin A-19 (M10-1) There is a picture on page 6 of 8 of this SB showing the mounting of the gascolator. Also Alon Service Bulletin No. 12 shows the gascolator mounted on the firewall. You may be able to use this to get a 337 on your airplane.
