What a crap-crud answer... elitist nonsense.

The fact is FAM sucks, and is most likely the culprit. A quick google 
will tell you all you need to know. This problem has NOTHING to do with 
Windows.

I haven't investigated or implemented it yet, but my understanding is 
that Gamin + inotify (NOT, repeat, NOT 'dnotify'), works pretty well, so 
I'd give that a try.
