Out of curiosity and if you don't mind saying, how many members of each types do you have for how many desks that it's full almost every day?
You can have a look at our old project here : http://code.google.com/p/stationc/ It works in the same vein as what you'd like but still very basic. We used it for a couple of months but then switched member models and dropped it.
