I'm immediately concerned by the exact two items you listed as cons.

For reference, every time we've grown quickly, we've had trouble. From minor
things like poor community integration, to major things like theft.

Personally, slow and steady growth from member-driven word of mouth has
brought us the strongest community members, time and again, over our 4
years.

If you do head this route - I'd consider doing a deep discount on something
OTHER than your normal membership to help preserve your prices, and know
that it's unlikely to build your community so much as it is your short term
cashflow. Be wary that deal hunters are likely to be transients rather than
the type of contributors you're probably looking for.
