i have referred to bitcoins as digital baseball cards or pet bit rocks
in the past.

they are really something different:
  decentralized digital fiat backed by negentropy.

gold equivalent? no. aurum is alluring at a visceral, direct level.

bitcoin reification occurs in first world infrastructure. however, it
has other unique and useful characteristics.  dismiss in prejudice as
you like; there is more to this story than initial impressions convey.
