Why could that have been? That's the best looking common web font there
is as long as the size is reasonable.

Helvetica is a special problem on the web, so please add the following
read to your typography todo list:

For years I had my browser pref set to Trebuchet, but recently changed
it to DejaVu Sans Condensed:
