The reason this hack rubs me the wrong way is that you're using the hack to pass a value to FF and other compliant browsers. IE7 gets the unblemished, unhacked version. It's the exact opposite of the way I usually work.
(Also, calling Safari a "minority browser" is absolute foolishness.
