Write your source code without any white-space between the blocks ?

That is what I am frequently forced to do, but it is a horrible
hack; one should be able to write HTML in such a way as to
make the semantics clear, not forced to run everything on to
one line simply because there is not an appropriate container
property that can be used to indicate "end of line to be ignored
within the scope of this container".
