I prefer to deliver desktop only to older browsers, so your "inline"
MQs would make this more difficult as you would need to make/write a
separate sheet to pull this off. While my method uses a second sheet
for IE, i'm not actually writing another sheet because I am just
importing my main sheets a second time. No extra work.

I've picked up a project that someone else did, and they used the
method you describe. I found it harder to work with. But that's just
me. It was also desktop down as opposed to mobile first, which REALLY
messed with my head.
