I was in the Navy a few years ago. Diving Medical Officers are required
to be qualified as divers, as well as in submarine operations ( since divers
are sometimes released from submarines ). This explains the radiation health
qualifications, since many current submarines are nuclear.
In my case, I had to see a Flight Surgeon, because of my Flight Status.
The Flight Surgeon was always qualified as a pilot, even though I never
personally saw one fly. Just a quirk of personnel regulations...
