of vanity license plates and personalized e-mail addresses, Taiwanese will
soon be able to bid on mobile phone numbers are considered lucky. Dozens of
numbers considered especially auspicious will go on the block later this
month, with bidding expected up into tens of thousands of Taiwan dollars,
Chunghwa Telecom Co. said. Chunghwa has been hoarding the numbers for years.
The company was encouraged by a preliminary auction last month which drew a
top price of 80,000 Taiwan dollars (US$2,424) for the number 456789. That
represents, in traditional thinking, ever-increasing success in business.
