US agents to have degrees in spying

A MASTER'S degree in spying has been established in Washington to
teach aspiring agents the intricacies of dead letter drops,
honeytraps, moles and defectors.
The degree is being offered by the Joint Military Intelligence
College at Bolling Air Force Base, known as the Harvard of
espionage. According to the prospectus, the master's degree was
"created to strengthen intelligence as a profession [and] allow
selected military and civilian intelligence professionals to
pursue advanced study and research in their chosen career field".
The one-year course includes modular units teaching intelligence
collection and counter-intelligence, "low-intensity conflict
analysis" and even "ethics in intelligence".
However, a top-class first degree will not be enough to gain a
place on the course. Candidates have to have Top Secret and
"sensitive compartmented information" clearance from a United
States government agency and must already be serving intelligence
officers in the US armed forces or the CIA.
Bolling is also offering an undergraduate course in strategic
intelligence. Those wishing to take the BA in spying will need to
be already engaged in intelligence work, with eight years'
experience in the field.
The course catalogue for the undergraduate course describes
examination of cases involving "moles, espionage, double agents,
honeytraps [the use of sexual blackmail] and defectors".
However, as an indicator that the courses are not for those in
search of the relaxed student life, all classes in the school for
spies begin at the distinctly military time of 0730 hours.
